Hi, I totally disassembled a 970cxi so I could clean the frame and
parts. I have put it back together but somethings not right.

The paper light flashes orange.

I am not sure about that clear disk(with numbers 1-12 on it) and white
gears on the opposite end to the inks, do I have to line these
gears/disk up any special way?

Is there a service manual available that would tell me how to do this stuff?

Thanks

KDC

I've had my 970 apart a couple of times to clean the ink sump. On one occasion
when I reasembled it I got the same flshing lights as you. Turns out that I had
failed to plug in one of the cables I had previously disconnected. Plugged it
in and it worked perfectly once again. I'm not positive about the gears but I
did not do anything special with those. I think that the printer goes through a
reseting procedure when you call it to print and gets everthing in sync at that
time. ******* Bob Headrick!--care to coment on this?******

Thanks for the reply, I have sorted it out, the paper
separator/spring/pin was fitted incorrectly causing the back roller to
be locked.

Incidentally, I broke the black cover thing that holds the
spring/pin/paper separator. So I ordered a new one and broke that
aswell... F#^K. I've tapped it down, the parts are too expensive to buy
another one.

The printer works now, but I can't get the damn page turner to function.
It knows the duplexer is there(I think it does... any way to test
this?), but it always grabs another page instead of of sucking the first
page back in. Any ideas?

You need to further explain. Do you mean when you print
duplex that the duplexer doesn't work? Does it tell you to
turn the paper around and reinsert then hit "continue" to
print the back sides? Or, does it just not tell you
anything? If the former, it is probably software. I have a
document or two that insist on printing all the front
sheets, then have me turn the paper around and reinsert in
the tray and then it prints all the back pages. This is
actually much faster than having to wait as the duplexer
does for a specific time before printing the back of the
page. Anyway, in my case it is obviously software (even
though I can't find anything in that one document) since
other documents use the duplexer correctly. So be sure you
defaults are set as you want before you decide that the
printer isn't working correctly. Good luck.

Before I took the printer and duplex apart, it was capable of
auto-double sided printing.

Now it prints the first side/page but rolls the paper out a bit to
far(past the roller), then the paper light flashes for 1-2 mins and it
will get a new sheet after that time, or when I press the paper button.

I have set all paper sizes to A4, set it to book fold/automatic.

I also tried re-installing drivers, and tried the printer on a totally
different computer, same results... so it must be printer related.

Really need that HP expert to comment, if he knows something to try.

Maybe I staticed the chip that handles duplex? who knows.
