I upgraded to win XP, downloaded new drivers but now I can't check the
amount of ink in the carts, am I just not looking in the right place? Seems
odd HP would delete this as it is handy........... Thanks for any info
Two ways to do it:
Open up the printer cover. There are icons printed underneath. The
carriage will move and stop in front of one of them. The two with 'waves'
and dots are low-ink. 3 dots means color, 1 dot means black. The sad faces
mean a cartridge is bad. The happy face means everything is OK.
For more detail, hold down the power button, hit the X key 4 times, then
the paper-feed button once, then release the power button. This will print
out a sheet with all sort of data. On the bottom is the estimated ink
levels. I=black, II=color.
There are often two versions of the drivers. The home version has the
ink level monitoring and the memory/CPU-cycle wasting print monitor. The
business version doesn't have the above.
