I just bought a HO5 black cartridge from PC World that is sold as being
compatible with my HP 950c, but when I fitted it, I got the blinking light
and the "not compatible" message. Is there anything I can try, or is a trip
back to PC World?

Thanks,
Ian

I suspect they have sold you the wrong cartridge (maybe incorrectly labelled, I
have seen that once or twice). You could try to clean the contacts on the back
of the cartridge but if it was mine I would take it back.

He's shown a lot more character than you have douche bag.(<-notice the
correct spelling of douche)

the shelf (not uncommon), this happens to OEM just as often as non-OEM
cartridges.

Tony da Tiger is speaking from experience. He really knows.

Thanks, Tony - seems it was faulty - I took it back and exchanged it for
another, which is fine.

Not necessarily. See:
http://www.hp.com/sbso/product/supplies/supplies_reliability_ink.pdf. I have
also seen similar tests for Epson although I have lost the link. the bottom
line - the OEM cartridges were much more reliable than the alternatives.

Fair enough Bob
I was speaking from my own experience and have not done any external research.
I certainly see lots of failed OEM cartridges (not necessarily HP).

Just looked at the report, it's a little old but well done, is there a more
recent analysis that you know of? My views stated above have been developed
over the past 6 months (the period that we have kept data on failed new
cartridges, we did this because we were getting what seemed to be a higher
number of failures than before across the board). If HP cartridges are more
reliable than compatibles we would have to take that into serious consideration
when choosing our suppliers.
