I have an HP Laserjet 9000dn w/3000 Stacker/Stapler installed with a
print queue on an NT 4.0 server with the latest NT and 2000/XP drivers
installed. My problem is that I need a separator page the prints the
username, time and date on a page that comes from sourcebin 2, with
the job itself printing on paper from sourcebin 4, and ALL output
going to the stacker with no stapling.
I am a PCL/PJL newbie and can't seem to get it right. The driver is
PCL 6 but I'm willing to drop it to PCL 5e if need be. I've taken the
default PCL separator page and modified it with what I thought was the
setting to tell the printer that all output needs to go to the
stacker, but it's telling me that I have a PCL XL error: Warning:
IllegalMediaSource
I've used the information in the HP document HP LaserJet 8000, 8100,
8150 and Color 8550 Printers - PCL and PJL Destination Commands for HP
3000-Sheet Stapler/Stacker (C4788A).

Help! I'm going insane trying to decode this while doing my other
work.

LBM Systems (http://www.lbmsys.com) has a product called Axiar that can do
this and more. In fact, we can selectively overwrite the PJL headers using
data driven logic.

PJL on the HPs is used in both PCL and PS, and for the 9k the version won't
matter.

A good way to start understanding PJL is to createa 'print to file' printer,
and look at the print file in an editor.
