Hello all,

I have been having difficulty with my printer intermittently not wanting to
function properly. I receive an error message telling me that there was an
error and files waiting to be printed have been deleted.

I uninstalled the printer and tried to reinstall it and now receive the
following message: Cannot install because it's driver could not be loaded.
The driver or the INF file may be damaged.

I am running Windows 98 and the printer is not listed
in the printer options section (i.e. HP 882c)

I am not a computer guru so I would appreciate
easy to understand advice.

Thank you,
Emmy

Hi Emmy-

First of all, you'd make it a lot easier on yourself to spend a little
money and purchase Windows XP. XP is the most up to date, and all
software runs a lot smoother with it. I know - I had 98. XP is so much
more stable also. XP already has your driver within it - So, you don't
have to install it.
But for now - try this:
Go to www.hp.com
Click on "Support & Drivers
Next Screen
Type in field under "Select a Task......": DeskJet 882c
Hit Enter Key
Next Screen
Click on "Solve a Problem"
Next Screen
Click on "Errors"
Next Screen
Click on "Error Messages Displayed on Computer"

Hopefully you'll find yur messages there. Otherwise, I would say to go
to Device Mgr. and remove everything - Or go to Control Panel and
Click on "Printers & Faxes". There it should give you an option to
remove your printer. After removing, Shut down - Unplug your printer
connection - Bring up the computer again - Then plug in connector -
See if it prompts you to install.
Hope this helps.

Emmy-
This is a correction to my above response to you. I meant to say if
you go into Device Mgr. ONLY remove everything pertaining to your
printer. With your experience, it's little risky. So, if you just
remove the printer in My Computer, it should do the same thing (Remove
the drivers & the it's USB controllers. As long as your system thinks
that it still has parts of your printer, you'll have trouble
re-installing.
