HP 7210 - Running through Color Ink Cart

I am using an HP 7210 All-in-one to print and copy many documents that are
primarily Black & White. In the last 4 months or so I've noticed that the
Color cartridge is running out far more quickly than the Black cartridge.
When this happens, some of my printed documents (Black & White) start
getting a red cast to them - leading me to believe that some of the black in
these documents is not being printed from the black cartridge but being
created as a mix from the tri-color cart. Also, when this happens there are
some documents that will have "true" black and the mixed black. Why is this
happening and is there some way to force all black to use the black
cartridge?

Thanks,

I don't have your model, but my HP and many HP's have a black only
setting in the property sheet. Check it out. You want "grayscale" and
"black only" checked. Then no color will be used and you won't notice
the quality difference.

The driver will typically use composite black (black made from CMY) when
printing graphics, since the color drops are about 1/4th the size of the
black drops they make better graphics. To force black only go to start,
printing and imaging, right click on the 7210, properties, printing
preferences, color, then check the "print in grayscale" and "black print
cartridge only" boxes, then OK. This will force the printer to use the
black cartridge only.

Thanks - I'll try it.

Ok - I've done this and it works. I'll just have to remember to switch back
to color when necessary.

Thanks,
