I am using Windows XP which has always been kept updated. Norton AntiVirus 2004 (also updated religiously) has found no viruses. An HP Photosmart 6670c will not install. When the printer is plugged in as prompted by instructions, Found New Hardware Wizard pops up and immediately the computer reboots. As long as the printer is connected to the USB port, at the moment the New Hardware Wizard discovers the printer, the computer will reboot ad infinitum, as if in an infinite loop. HP has been no help. Anyone have any clues? Thanks.

Erm..... what model of printer? I can't find it in the complete list of
Photosmart products at the HP website

Sorry about that. It's an HP 7660C. I sent e-mails back and forth with the people at HP for about a week. I downloaded their latest drivers, uninstalled, re-installed, etc., etc. but to no avail. My operating system (Windows XP Home) has been maintained religiously. It absolutely amazes me to go to the websites of manufacturers and check out the large number of problems people have in installing hardware, etc!

Well let's start from the beginning ... first uninstall as per
http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article One.htm

If you miss out on Step 4, all you end up doing is reinstalling the older
drivers, so you must get them out of XP's mind! If you've installed more
than once, you may find several sets that you need to highlight and remove.

Now after Step 5... the new drivers are at HP's website at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?product=305364&lang=en&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&os=228

Install the software. Do NOT connect the printer to the PC until the
software tells you to do so.

How is it working after this?
