I have a HP 6210 networked all-in-one inkjet. It works fine, but the
software (required for scanning and use of the memory card slots) is
an unbelievable resource hog.

Does anyone know if I can install the software for only a single user
and log on just for my intermittent use of the 6210?

Thanks for your attention.

You can go to HP's site and get the 'HP Basic Feature software/drriver'.
This doesn't have the taskbar icon, memory resident 'utilities', or the
various photo editing and other junk software. It's just the basic
printer and scanner (TWAIN) drivers.

These drivers are the same for most of the same era OfficeJets. I use
them on a 7310 for work use. On my home computer (both are actually at
home), I use the full drivers.

I did have an issue with the work computer where I got a popup with
every print job that it had installed new cartridges. I traced that down
and fixed it by DISABLEing the 'PML Driver HPZ12' service. The only
drawback is you don't get popups if you run out of paper or the ink is
getting low. If you don't have the popup problem, I wouldn't worry. The
service normally only appears to start during printing, then shuts down.
