hello every one, new on here,
recently purchased one of these printers.it works great on re filled
cartridges but i cannot reset the ink levels to full (cart type 339 &
344). i understand on some models you can 'fool' the levels by swapping
2 more carts in, but is there another way? many thanks

If I remember correctly, the 9x series cartridges for this printer
cannot be reset.

Yes that's what I've heard as well.

Anyone got a hacked version of the driver that supresses the pop-ups?

What you can do is use Ink Monitor to count the pages. It only counts the
black ones. HP estimates 400 pages for a 98 and 800 for a 96, if I have the
numbers right. So you could fill the 98 that came with it after 300 pages,
to be sure not to run dry and blow the printhead on the cartridge.

I don't have this printer but there is something you can try that worked
in older HP printer drivers. Open the Toolbox window, which in your
printer driver should be accessible through Printer Properties, Services
tab, Service This Device. If this doesn't work try various windows of
the printer driver until you are able to right click on the upper window
bar and see a pull down menu with one choice being "About". Be
forewarned that some HP drivers have an About tab in the property window
which leads to a dead end and you will not see a big printer image in
the middle of the window as described a couple of steps from now. What
ever you do, you have to get to a window the big printer image. In any
case, click on About and another window pops up with this big printer
image of your printer in the middle. Hold down the CTRL key while double
clicking on the image. This will lead you to device configuration
settings. If you get a Device Configuration Alert Window that pops up
just click Continue. In this last window, under the Configuration Tab
(if more than one tab), scroll down to Product Components and look for
the Low Ink Warning line. Just double click on it and then choose to
turn it off by clicking in the OFF mode button. If you try this
procedure, please post back so others will know if it works or not.

Couldn't get to the window you discribe. The nearest I could get to that was

Printing Preferences -> Services -> service this device -> configuration
tab -> Configure Status messages button

That allows you to turn off messages about incorrectly installed carts. (eg
"Black Print Cart Incorrectly Installed"). Seems like a strange option. I
haven't had chance to see if it allows old refilled carts to be used.

Did you try right clicking on the header bar of various driver windows
to see if the About choice was available?

Ah yes. I have found a secret menu/prog...

Go to...

Services -> Service this sevice -> HP xxxxx Series Toolbox

Then right click on the the window top bar and select "About"

New window appears with a crossed spanner and screwdriver icon.

Control double click on the icon an a new message appears

"This program is for troubleshooting and will modify your dervice blah blah"

Click continue and there is a new list of about 20 options that can be set.

I haven't investigated these yet but some examples..

"Black under printing <on>". Sounds like that might save some ink if you
don't mind slightly less dense black .

One option is named "Flight Recorder" I wonder what that does. One is called
"Low on ink warning"
