HP 5940 Photo problems

When printing A4 borderless photos there is a "paler" band about 20mm from
the edge which is a right pain. I've also experienced this with another HP
printer (HP 5900 I think).

The HP help knows about this but just suggests flipping the photo 180
degrees and/or using the 'Maximum DPI' setting both of which are useless.

During printing you can hear the print head noise change (I guess it's doing
a head clean or something) at about this point.

Has anyone a real solution to this problem or do I give up with HP printers?

Thanks

I would contact HP support and do not let them off the hook. If they
cannot get you a working 5940 insist on a refund and take a look at a
different printer model such as the DeskJet 6540.
