HP 4si MX Ethernet interface

I've been using this as a normal parallel printer. But I find that with
my Windows 2000 machine that printing slows down other processes way too
much. Ialso want to like my two machines.

So I'm considering trying to use the Ethernet interface, but the manual
I downloaded says nothing about it.

So my questions are:

If I use ethernet will performance be better?
What do I have to do to set it up? (There is an Ethernet connection
built into the motherboard. I know I need a cable...
How will this compare with making a direct connection between the two
computers and "sharing" the printer?

Thanks for any guidance.

Not necessarily. Ethernet itself can go faster than most parallel
connections, but the older JetDirect cards don't take advantage of that.
In fact, most of them can be outrun by an ECP parallel connection.

If you only want to attach one computer direct to the printer, you need
a crossover Ethernet cable. If you already have a hub or switch, just
connect the printer to it with a normal cable.

It may go faster and you won't need to have both computers on to print.

It seems the L/J 4Si (I've not met one - I've a IIISi & a 5Si)) uses
the same network cards as the L/J4+ (see posts earlier, starting
06/09/2003 13.12).

I said in that thread that these cards can often be found on eBay.
There are some on offer ATM. See:
