My HP 4100N has seen very little use but has failed me now.
When starting is does mem check and then goes to "Checking Printer" on
the display.
Tried restart, reboot, cold reboot etc.
Does anyone know what this means?
thanks

Try (with power off) removing the EIO (Network) card and all of the DIMM's
(assuming there are some installed) but do not remove the firmware DIMM in the
lowest DIMM slot, and power on.
If the printer comes ready reinstall the devices you removed one at a time
until the problem returns, that will be the faulty item.
If the printer still does not come ready, remove the formatter with power off,
power on (you may have no display) and try an engine test. The engine test
button is located at the left side of the printer below the vent, use a non
metallic object to push the button recessed in the hole.
If the engine test works (a page will be printed), reinstall the formatter and
if the failure returns the formatter is faulty.
If none of this works you have either a bad connection in the printer or the
Engine Control Board has failed.
