To replace my HP 5100C, due to the absence of real solution by HP to
make it work with WinXP, I will have to go for a new model...

I'm considering the scanner HP 4070.
Does some of you have an opionion and/or experience about this model.
I scan mainly: prnted material, photos, drawings... OCR is only
occasional.

Thanks in advance for any advice or commment.

I had the HP 5p and had it working great with XP. Of course that had a
SCSI interface and I believe you have a USB interface. Still I see
that HP had drivers for this scanner & XP free to download off their
web site.

Also have you tried run the software in compatability mode for windows
98? Find the program file in your windows explorer and right click on
it with your mouse. Select Properties and then Compatability. You
will see then that you can run the program in compatability with
Windows 95, 98, ME, NT & 2000. That has worked for me on a few old
programs.

I find that answer from HP totally unacceptable! I had the same kind of
problem and told HP's president I would never buy another product from
them - which, in fact, I am not doing. You are crazy to let them get away
with that kind of crap, IMHO.

Sorry for my late answer, and thanks for trying to help.

My old and still working 5100C is still connected by a parallel port;
part of the problem, I'm sure.

I have thought about the Compatibily function in XP, but I was a
little bit suspiscious and cautious due to the numerous "sneezings" of
Windows when you try something not exactly as it wants it.
As it seemed it worked in your case, I will give it a try.
Thanks for the tip...
