My HP 3740 has an unusual problem and I just cannot figure it out. It begins
to print, printing about 1/3 of a page and then it stops. It remains stopped
for a few minutes. Then it prints a few more lines and stops again. Then it
prints the remaining 1/3 of the page. It scrolls in the second page and
repeats the process. This can continue through a 9-page document and takes
several minutes.

I have plenty of memory on my computer and have defragged it as well. The
printer was working fine yesterday. But now it just takes bite size chunks
and several minutes to print 9 pages. I have taken the cartridges out, and
reset them in the printer. The print heads are clean. There is ink in the
cartridges. This is very puzzling. Does anyone that is reading this have a
solution to this vexing problem? Thank you very much in advance,

There are thermal sensors in each cartridge to make sure the printheads are not
overheating. You might try removing the color cartridge, then send a print
job. Then reinstall the color cartridge and print with the black only.

If one of these is OK then the other cartridge is probably the problem. If the
cartridge is an HP cartridge check the warranty as shown at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bua02014
If the problem cartridge is in warranty contact HP or your dealer for a
replacement.

If the problem persists with each cartridge installed individually I would
expect some communication problem with the computer. Check all the cables, and
check the system hardware settings in the control panel and make sure there are
no conflicts.
