I have a hp3015 which is connected to my laptop through a docking
station. If I unplug the printer cable from the printer, then plug it
back in, the computer thinks that it is disconnected.

I have uninstalled the printer from windows xp, restored the default
settings on the printer, restarted everything, then plugged it back
in. The computer does not recognize that there is a new plug and play
device connected.

Any help?

Thanks

If you have the driver CD then uninstall the printer, power off the printer and
disconnect the cable to the PC. Install the driver and software from the CD
(printer still disconnected) and plug the cable in and power up the printer
when the PC tells you to. If you don't have the CD download the driver from
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...iesId=378048&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228
and follow the instructions above.
Once the printer is installed download and install the update from the HP
driver site

Thank you. I installed the software and when it looked for the device
I plugged in and powered on the printer. The PC did not detect it. I
canceled out of the sofware installation then ran it again, with the
printer connected and on. It still was not detected.

Any other ideas? Thanks

Uninstall the printer. Check in the Printers folder that there are no 3015's
installed, if there are delete them.
If you are using the USB connection to the printer. Go to Control Panel,
System, Hardware, Device Manager. Uninstall all of the devices under Universal
Serial Bus Controllers (click the + sign to see them. Reboot the PC and let XP
reinstall the USB devices. No need to do this if you are using the parallel
cable.
Go to the printer and faxes folder. Select File, Server properties and open the
Drivers tab. Is the driver for your printer still there? If so click Remove and
click OK. Reinstall the printer with the cable disconnected, connect the cable
only when asked (this is very important).
Let us know how you get on.

I think it is because of the docking station. I took the computer off
the docking station and plugged in the printer, and it detected it
right away. Not sure why... and I haven't tried putting it back on the
docking station yet.
Thanks
