I have a lab of 22 computers with a Laserjet 4000 black and white
printer and a Color laserjet 2600n attached via the network. The 4000
works fine. The 2600n works fine except every morning ill walk in and
see 8 test pages.
The pages come from computer number 13 (go figure) and the date is oct
13 2006 (friday the 13th, go figure again). I think that is the day I
instlaled the printer. I printed a test page from every computer that
day successfully.

Since then, the printer has been used without any problems. But every
day, I get 8 test pages from teh same comptuer and the same day. All
computers are shut down each night; i check this before leaving each
night and locking up. No cleaning crew. I walk in each morning, find
all comptuers are still off, but the printer has 8 fresh new test pages
on it from the dates mentioned above...

any thoughts?

thanks in advance!

tried to clear the memory, but didnt know how, unplugged the printer
for a few minutes then plugged it back in. This morning, i arrive and
find 2 test pages... same time, dated, and comptuer number as stated
above...

Hi!

I'd disconnect the offending computer as named in the printouts. Unplug the
power and printer/network connections. Then I'd check it for any power
up/power down schedule settings. It would also be a good idea to see if that
computer might be set to print a banner page or reset the printer prior to
sending a job.

Finally, a check for viruses or use of network monitoring tools would not be
out of the question.

Here's a hunch from another 2600n owner.

Before you turn on the offending computer #13 next time, turn the printer off,
or otherwise disconnect it from the printer.

If you are lucky you will get an error at boot time about your phantom job,
and will be given the option to kill it. If that works, then reboot with
printer on and see if the luck holds.

If it doesn't, I'd try to uninstall the printer from #13, and reinstall after
another reboot.

could have done without the offensive and useless comment from NoMad,
but welcome to the internet I guess...

Other folks, thanks for the ideas! I will try them out today.

Isnt it so odd and funny that it is computer number 12, and the date of
the test page is oct, friday 13th? LOL thought it was funny!

Thanks for the tips!
Unplugged the printer.
booted up the computer 13.
It then said "No printer found, page failed to print."

I uninstalled the printer, reboot, reinstall, reboot, and all is good!
:)

thanks!
