Hi,

I have a document that looks fine on screen and in print preview
etc...however when prints, it only prints the underlines of email and
web addresses, the rest of the document prints blank.

I thought it might be a driver issue on the HP LaserJet 2420, so
changed it trying the following: Windows generic print driver, PCL5e,
PCL6 and PS driver (all from HP site)....all with the same
result...the document prints blank.

This problem only occurs on specific documents. I compared a document
that prints fine with a document that prints blank...the only
difference i could see was a difference in font...

The font of the document that prints blank was 'Helv'. I then
therefore thought it might be a font issue...however a similar problem
then occurred, this time with a document that was using the 'Aerial'
font.

Could this be an OS issue? It is a HP LaserJet 2420n printer running
on Windows 2003.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers

TJ-

See if changing the color of the font makes a difference.

Still the same im afraid...perhaps there is something wrong with the
server it is installed upon?

are you familliar with issues regarding the UNIDRVUI.DLL?

I think the server is in the printer. As I understand, the HP LJ2420N
has a "JetDirect" function that acts as both a server and an Ethernet
access port. There should be no need for an additional server to feed
it.

You might check to see which fonts are built-in and which fonts are
supplied by your computer. You can probably access the JetDirect using
a web browser set to its IP address (http://192.222.0.5 is a made-up
example) unless the printer's control panel can print out the font list.

UNIDRVUI.DLL is foreign to me. Try doing a web search.

Right...

I removed all drivers / printers and ports from the machine,
reinstalled the freshly up to date downloaded versions...the problem
still existed.

I have determined that this is not a printer HW / driver issue, nor is
it machine HW issue. I feel that it is more of an OS issue.

My first plan of action will be to remove the current spool directory
re-creating it on a new partition, hopefully elliminating a corrupt
spooler / job issue, re-install the troublesome driver and recreating
the printer.

Thanks for you input.

The new spooler directory idea didnt work, i also removed all the old
print driver directories too, allowing it to recreate brand new fresh
installations of the drivers and directories.

perhaps now to check the fonts on the server

cheers
