HP 15 (black) cartridge architecture?

Anyone know how the HP 15 Black cartridge is built (felt pad or
bladder tank?). I want to refill it when the time comes. There
is an indicator screen that pops up occasionally advising its
"remaining" amount, which I suspect is software and not hardware
driven. How does one reset that?

The #15 is identical to the #45, but is only filled a bit past half-full
(25ml vs 42ml) compared to the #45. From other posts, it can be filled
just like a #45. You CANNOT use a #45 in a printer designed for a #15
because the ID codes are a bit different. The printer will not really work
with a #45. Somebody once figured out a partial way, but it involves
blocking some ID lines which are also used to control some of the nozzles.
That resulted in streaks in the output.

Each cartridge has a unique ID code. The printer has a memory that keeps
track of both the current and previous cartridge ID and estimated ink
levels. THere is no DIRECT level measurement. It's just a guess based on
the type of cartridge installed and the amount of ink used. You can ignore
the ink level warnings after refilling if you wish.

There are two ways to 'reset' what the printer sees:
Rotate between 3 cartridges, which causes the ID code to rotate out of
memory.
Use the method below to alter the ID of your cartridge twice to rotate
it's ID out of memory:
