HP 1150c - doesn't print yellow

I've been given an HP 1150c that works very nicely, except that it
doesn't print any yellow. I've gone through the troubleshooting guide
on the HP website, and none of that helped.

It definitely not a software issue, as printing a test page without
the PC attached still doesn't print any yellow.

Has anyone seen anything like this before, or does anyone have any
ideas about what might be the problem?

Do you have a new color cart? Yellow is typically the first color out.

Thanks for the thought, but as far as I know it's a new ink cartridge.
The printer was given to me as having yellow not working, and I would
be very surprised if the previous owner didn't try changing the
cartridge - he's quite technically minded!

What does the HP toolbox indicate as the ink level?

Ah, that I don't know, as I haven't got a copy of the toolbox. Maybe
I could get a copy from the HP website...

I have had a similar problem on an 1218 which uses the 78 cartridge, it was
brand new. I am trying to get a replacement. Then My Son who has a 916 said
that he couldn't get any colours at all also a 78. Though it was a brand
new cartridge again the ink for all three colours refuses to come through
even after the prime sequence. Went out and bought from another supplier
and it worked ok. Might be interesting to compare batches?

There is no ink level indicator available for the Officejet 1150, it was
released well before this capability was introduced by HP.

The original problem almost certainly sounds like a cartridge that is out of
ink or beyond its shelf life. Replacing the #41 cartridge should solve the
problem. When you are buying new cartridges look at the "install by" date and
make sure you have fresh cartridges.
