My HP IIIp has died again. I've had it fixed several times over the years
and now it's dead which I suspect means the power supply has died.

I am thinking of buying an HP 1000 or 1012 and would appreciate any opinions
from people who use them. I have a home office and my printing volume is
very small. The HP Web site says the 1000 is discontinued, but that
shouldn't be a problem as far as I can tell.

Thank you.

I just bought the 1012 to replace a 5L which was jammed and had worn
rollers. The 1012 at $199 was cheaper than having the 5L repaired, and
it is a much improved printer -- the 5L had some real shortcomings. The
1012 may be avilable for $145 at places like Staples, but I bought it
from MicroCenter where I can get service if necessary.

One drawback -- the 1012 is a USB machine, and I had to buy a USB print
server to use it on my home network. The 1015, I think that is the
right number, has both USB and parallel, and has more memory -- I am not
sure of the cost. I don't know anything about the 1000, but I like the
1012 so far.

Thanks, Oliver...

I'm OK with USB-only. I looked at the 1012 at Office Depot and it's
terrific. It printed the test page in no time at all. It looks like the
best printer for me at this point. I've listed my IIIp on eBay -- maybe
someone who knows how to fix it themself will buy it.
