Sorry to ask but I haven't built a 'puter for a few years. I'm on a very
tight budget but just need to know that the items below will actually work
together!

MoBo:

CPU:

RAM:

VGA:

My old GeForce MX400

I really appreciate any advice here! Or reasons NOT to do the above. I know
it wont win any awards but it seems resonable for £200.

Cheers!

Well I'd be weary of generic memory but so long as you can return it if
there's any problem... MSI boards have seemed to me to be slightly
pickier than average about memory, not even considering that this is an
nForce2 board which you might someday want to add a 2nd memory module to,
and then might like to take advantage of the slight performance benefit of
running in dual-channel mode. Many boards will run OK with a single
lower-end memory module in them but if/when you add a second module thent
he problems appear, which could be blamed on the (then) new module but
could just as easily be the original module having too little a margin of
stability and the second module is fine, would've worked if you'd had two
of them. Never had a chance to try ebuyer memory myself though...

You've chosen a 333FSB socket A CPU, and the motherboard supports 200 / 266
/ 333 and 400FSB socket A CPUs: http://snipurl.com/5oqt , so you're fine
there.

You've chosen DDR400 PC3200 RAM, which is supported by the motherboard.
Some say that DDR333 PC2700 RAM would give you a tiny performance advantage
as it is better suited to the CPU, but it wouldn't be noticeable without
benchmarking it. If you stated the reasons for choosing the motherboard,
you could get some advice on that too.

I looked through the PC3200 RAM on ebuyer, and I found this for £58.74:
http://snipurl.com/5opz . However, on the Kingston website, the only two
un-supported MSI motherboards were http://snipurl.com/5oqy and
http://snipurl.com/5or0 . I'm not sure why Kingston say they aren't
supporting the K7N2 Delta-L, but one of the reviews on the ebuyer website
says that this memory works with the motherboard..

If you are comfortable with overclocking, you could instead spend £54.04 on
this 333FSB AMD Athlon XP 2500+ http://snipurl.com/5ouf , raising the FSB to
400 to give you XP 3200+ performance. You'll need a fan that is rated for a
3200+ or higher to do this though, like an Arctic Cooling Copper Silent 2M
http://snipurl.com/5ovv

Thanks for all that... really helpful. The reason I chose the mother board
was after reading a good review and it seems cheap. The only specific
question I have left is the on-board audio. In the past I have always
avoided on-board video & audio but I'm wondering what theyre like these
days. And I can't quite work out if the on-board Realtec has a digital out
which I may use in the future.. any ideas?

....you're going to buy the parts for your "new" system off some online auction service?! o_O

The more I use usenet the more severely ignorant people I come across. If
you're going to reply then at least read my post and click on the links
provided. What mention to I make of any sort of auction?

Well, I am currently using the K7N2 Delta with the XP2800+ chip, and
it's a pretty decent setup. There are a few minor problems with the
board. According to the manual, the setup I am using should not
work, but it does. The MSI forums are are great, real active, they
can answer any question, usually within 24 hours. Forums can be
found at http://www.msi.com.tw/. Click on your country, they work
your way to the support section, and then to the support forums. One
thing, and I think it was just bad luck for me, was that my first
K7N2 Delta arrived DOA, but again, I think that was bad luck. I know
at least 3 other people who are using the K7N2 Delta, and they all
love it.

Make sure you have a decent Power Supply (I am using the Raidmax
PMS500B 500w). Also, make sure you use compatible RAM, as the MSI
forums are full of people with RAM-based problems. I am using one
512MB stick of Micron PC2100 DDR (which isn't supposed to be
compatible). My system works, but I do get some problems when
playing games (system restarts, lock ups, etc). Here is a link of
compatible RAM
http://www.nvidia.com/content/nForceMemoryCompatability/lstnForceMemoryCompatibility.asp.
With that processor, your best off getting PC2700 or better. You're
also better off saving money and getting DDR333 (PC2700).
Supposedly, you will see some increased system performance, and
you'll save money. You might want to consider getting 2 sticks, this
way you can take advantage of the Dual Channel mode this board
offers.

Hopefully this helps, good luck with the system.

I did click on the links yesterday and I got some sort of error message saying something like the
item was no longer available, so I assumed it was an auction, but apparently, it was just their shit
server was down and they had a really doofy 404 error. Pardon me for not keeping up with shit parts
dealers in the UK whose site goes down intermittently throughout the day. *rolls eyes*
