I use Outlook 2000 for email and Outlook Express for my newsgroup reader.
When I reply to a newsgroup post or post a new subject the OE6 email window
pops up and after sending the post shows up the sent items folder in OE6
rather than Outlook. If I forward a newsgroup post the Outlook email
program comes up and all goes as it should. Now the really weird part. In
OE6 it says that it is not the default mail program (as it should read), and
in OE6 under TOOLS/ACCOUNT/MAIL there is NO mail account at all (so how can
OE6 send a reply???). The only change in the system recently was that I
installed a Windows update yesterday. Could that have something to do with
the problem?

Outlook has always used OE as its news reader. If you reply directly to
someone (rather than a post), the news reader will treat this as an email
and bring up Outlook and store the sent mail in Outlook. If you use the
option to respond to the group, it is treated as a reply to the news group
and is stored in OE.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Bob Newman asked:

Dang! I looked in my "sent items" & you were right (of course). How could
I have used them both for years and never realized this?
