End of an era.

HERE

'Twas a great invention, now consigned to the bin. ;)

We still have one of these set up and plugged in in one of our hallways here. Even being in my 20s I still used these to do school work in Elementary School.

When I left school I was offered an aprenticeship with Olivetti, to be a typewriter mechanic.

I didn't go for that though, I went for a paper pushing job and ended up using a typewriter daily.

Then 4 years later I went back to a 'mechanical' occupation. I was a confused young man, methinks.

As for typewriters - horrible things, I much prefer using the backspace button to tippex, it's easier to change a printer cartridge than a ribbon and instead of sandwiching several carbon sheets I just click '4' - good riddance, the world moves on, mostly for the better despite the musings of some elder folk ;)

I used to sell them in a large south London departmental store many, many years ago. The ones I liked were the "Olivetti Lettera 22" and a large Swiss one called,I think "Hermes" Built like a tank but so smooth to use. But selling them didn`t mean that I learned to type. The only time I "type" is when I use the computer key board to write missives like this.... and I enjoy it.
But like you floppy` it`s time to move on ever on.
