I have 32 bit home premium from a purchased upgrade from xp. My puter is
64 bit so was thinking of upgrading to 64 bit home premium but it looks
like that is impossible. Is that correct? No way I am starting from
scratch again.

When windows 7 comes along will that upgrade 32 vista to 64 windows7 or
will it be the same problem?
thanks
John

You cannot upgrade a 32-bit OS to a 64-bit OS. Windows 7 won't change this.

32bit and 64bit are two different platforms. It has never been possible to
'upgrade' from one platform to another..

Yes, it's correct.

Then you will have to stay with the 32-bit version you are running.

That means you have to reinstall all your software and reset all your
preferences I gather. Kind of a pain.

It you have a desktop PC, you could get another HD and
install 64 bit on it with dual boot. That way you could still be
operational with the 32 bit version while setting up the 64 bit
version at your leisure. You will also still have all the settings
available for reference.
