I am very new to this. Can someone help me? I have windows xp home edition. I just bought a JVC home camcorder that records to s-vhs compact tapes. I would like to know how I can transfer what I record on tape, to my computer so I can save it to a disk or play it on my windows media player. I searched the jvc website and I have read all the paperwork that came with my camcorder, but I find nowhere does it explain the How-To aspects of using it with the computer. There are video and audio output jacks, and there appears to be a usb port. Is it as simple as buyin a usb cable and hooking up to the unused usb port
I apologize that this may sound so dumb, but after all, I started out by saying I am very new at this
Any suggestions, tips, are appreciated
Thanks in advance for your expert reply.

There are two types of camera: analogue and digital. S-VHS is analogue. You need a capture card/box which will capture analogue video into digital data which can then be manipulated in a software editing package. I suggest you go to http://www.dvdoctor.net/ and look at the Computer Video Magazine forum there (better yet, subscribe to the magazine (www.computervideo.net). There are loads of postings that should help - start with a browse of FAQs - there's diverse stuff there: networking, video camera-work, PC setup (to get the best out of it), technical terminology, comparison of software and so on. If you look at "System Configurations" you'll realise that setting up your own system can be tricky. Then keep an eye on Desktop Video - General. The site has been around for a few years and some of the experts have gotten a bit tired of answering beginner's questions over and over so I recommend you use the Search engine before posting any specific questions.
