I have two laptops, one with XP-SP1 professional and Windows 2000. The XP
machine is having problem and cannot be started. I suspect that the registry
on the XP machine has problems. Therefore, I am wondering:

(1) How I can obtain a copy of the entire registry file from this
non-working machine?

(2) How I can import a modified registry into the previous machine?

(3) Is there any tool for checking the registry's integrity? I suspect that
my machine was tempered.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Before you go through all of that it's a good idea to at least give a repair
installation a shot if you're able to:

Repair Installation of XP:

For some laptops, most of them are OEM, you'll find that there's a hidden
method to reinstall the OS and inside that you'll find something akin to a
"non-destructive recovery" which is basically the same thing as a repair
installation.
