I cannot seem to find how to have FP2000 include the new/private styles from
a .css style sheet into the style picker found in Format|Style
If I use Format|Style|New, it creates a document style.
Is there a way to get FP to "read" a style sheet so that I can use my User
Defined Styles when creating and formatting web pages?
Or am I forced to edit the HTML directly?
Note, FP is finding the style sheet (which I have linked into my template)
'cause when I create a new page I get the background color and default font
specified there.
thanks,
-carl

Create your external style sheet (if you haven't) File New and select the Style Sheet templates
Then Format Style Sheet Links & browse to your style sheet (apply to all pages)

I know how to and have created an external .css style sheet using one of the
templates.
I have applied it to my web pages and it is being used.
I edited the style sheet and have defined a new class there:
.pagelink {font-family: Arial Narrow;}
I want to be able to see that class when I try to apply a style to, let's
say, a paragraph.

OK!
After more reading and searching and experimenting I discovered what I think
is the answer!
for editing: User-defined styles are found under Format|Style|User-defined
styles.
for applying: User-defined styles are found in the Style-drop down box (at
the left end) on the Formatting toolbar.
They "show up" there after a page is opened that has a link to an external
css style sheet or has page-level styles defined.

Yet NOWHERE in any document that I can find is this CLEARLY stated.
it was obliquely stated in reference to embedded styles
but never mentioned in the discussion of external style sheets

Here is my "objection"
The Format button on the Menu bar contains choices of formatting "to be
applied to the selected text/objects on the page" (font, paragraph, bullets,
theme, shared borders, etc).
HOWEVER - the selection of Format|Style allows you to create/edit style
definitions (on that page), *not* to apply that style to the selected
object.
Applying a style is done from the style drop down at the left end of the
Formatting Toolbar, or the selection of a Style button on some of the
properties pop-ups (e.g. table).
That is what led me astray.
I understand it now.

I hope this helps someone else.
And now that I have made my confusion clear to others, I'd still appreciate
any comments or help about the creation/use of user defined styles in
external style sheets.
For instance, if you have "lots" of them, and/or multiple sheets linked, do
they all (only) appear in this one drop down on the Formatting tool bar?

thanks

Format Style creates inline or embedded styles (depending on where you use it from) in that page
If you have a style sheet linked to your pages do not use the Format Style
- open and edit the style sheet (.css file) in FP
- best done w/ a 3rd party style sheet editor (configured from FP)
