I find it incredible that MS Vista will not support my old email address and
it is a MS account! I do not want the hastle of changing my email address.
How can I use Vista mail with my current account on msn.com? This was not a
problem on Windows XP.

Legacy pop3 msn.com accounts are the only msn accounts supported using Vista's Windows Mail.

If your account is a legacy pop3 then the applicable settings are:
Incoming:
pop3.live.com
Enter username of the form (e-mail address removed) and enter pw
Uncheck SPA
Server = Port 995
Ensure SLL Encryption is toggled on

Outgoing:
smtp.live.com
Check 'My Outgoing server requires Authentication
Enter username of the form (e-mail address removed) and enter pw(or check 'use same settings as my incoming mail server')
Uncheck SPA
Server = Port 25
Ensure SLL Encryption is toggled on

Well, I gave Dave's reply a good rating because Live Mail looks like a good
solution. Then I tried it... and got this error on my first email reply.

The message could not be sent. Subject 'Re: what's up?', Protocol: HTTPMail,
Server Response: 'There is an error synchronizing your mail account. Please
verify your account has been configured correctly by first accessing your
mail on the web.', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x80AA4193, Error
Number: 0x80AA4193

What a delightful error message. It asks me to first access the mail I was
replying to. Oh well, maybe it will correct itself, maybe not...time will
tell.

Sigh,
Bill

Post the name of your ISP and we'll try to help.

The name of your server would be handy.

Have you registered your Hotmail address with Windows Live?

"Have you registered your Hotmail address with Windows Live?"

I have been waiting for someone to ask this question. Windows Vista will
promt you to update your hotmail account to a Windows Live account. It gives
you a link that sends you to a screen to upgrade it your account. However,
after upgrading the account it does not update the screen. Regardless of what
I do the screen does not change. It will not let you select the next button
to continue with the setup, even after you have upgraded your account. I have
yet to find a solution.
