How to use hotmail on Windows Mail??

I know eh? Now they force u to use something known as Live Mail Desktop so
that you'll need to keep up (AKA maintain) with 2 mail programs. Why don't
they just make an add-in for Windows Mail instead, makes much more sense.

To be honest, it's just a way to tally up the "Live" services count.

I use HotPop.

Windows Mail doesn't support hotmail, ridiculous!

It's so you, the user of a "no-cost" email account, are forced to look at
advertising. They'll mumble about security protocol issues, but, given the
two possibilities, mine and theirs, who's do you think is closer to the
truth?

I use Hotpop to retrieve Hotmail with WM.

I certainly hope you get a good commission from Hotpop. I would wager you have responded with this exact post more than 100 times within the past six months. While relevant to a point, third-party software is hardly a solution for a Microsoft software situation that does not seem to be working correctly, especially when testing a Beta product and providing feedback on the use of the product to the maker of the product.

You may disagree that 3rd party products don't belong, but when they release
the product minus options, then that is where 3rd party products are needed.

They are not going to support Hotmail, so an alternative is needed.

They are also not going to add features of WinMail that some users like, so
again, a 3rd party program will be of use.

Already working is my OEToolV program, and others are on the way.

Hey Steve;

I don't disagree that, with WinMail not supporting "no-cost" email accounts,
a third-party solution is a viable alternative. My point was twofold:

1. There are other methods of capturing "no-cost" email with Vista, using
applications included with Vista, such as IE7, with free software available
from Microsoft (WLMD) and with Outlook. These alternatives should be
explored, not ignored.

2. Because the majority of the regular users of these newsgroups are IT
professionals and hard-core hobbyists there seems to be some falling back to
"bad habits" to overcome new and different ways of doing things with Vista.
This includes disabling UAC and indexing, hacking the registry to "make
things like they were" and so on, without first attempting to adapt to a new
or different method of accomplishing a task. This type of modification,
while not illegal, immoral or wrong in any way, really does not test Vista
as an operating system in the way the average user will be using it, and
thereby may not be representative of the obstacles likely to be encountered
by the average Vista user, thus, it may be more difficult to provide a
proper solution to the average user. I certainly do some customizations
that I would not expect my friend Don to be aware of, and maybe not even
technically proficient to perform, but when he calls with a question about
trying to blah, blah, blah I try to give him guidance that works within the
construct of Vista, not something that changes the construct, whenever
possible.

Hi Mark,

I understand where you are coming from, but eventually one is going to have
to rely on 3rd party stuff if one wants added functionality not provided via
Vista.

cheers,

steve

They would like you to spend the money on Microsoft Office since hotmail is
supported in Outlook 2007.

Yes, I would have to say this is not a technical issue. It is a stupid
marketing decision.

MS get your act together. If you're not going to provide http access to
hotmail through outlook express, then go back to pop3 access. After all, if I
remember correctly, it used to support pop3 back in the day (free access),
you then turned to http access, you then took away http access unless you
were subscribed, and now you don't allow http access. Leave well enough
alone, you can't continue to squeeze money out of this cabability by
continually screwing your customers.

Well, I've got a mail to try the beta "Windows Live Mail desktop",
appearantly this is a mail client that imports my Hotmail accounts, just
like it currently still works unther Outlook Express in my Windows XP.
So, isn't it possible to view my hotmail together with my other mailaccounts
under Windows Mail standard in Vista?
Greetings

Windows Mail cannot access Hotmail or other HTTP mail. Windows Live Mail
Desktop can access Hotmail, and some other HTTP mail plus POP3 and IMAP
mail. So you can put all your accounts in it. I won't. It's worse than
Windows Mail to use.

They just release a new beta of WLM Desktop yesterday....it seems ok so far.
It isn't a replacement for outlook. If you have outlook you can get the
add-in for outlook

Downloading it now. It's a fairly big jump in build numbers, so we'll see
if it's decent yet.

I'll admit it's faster, but I still can't put a next unread message button
on the toolbar and have to use the keyboard shortcut. If they take that
away too it comes off my machine as useless. It's also still even uglier
than Windows Mail. I can't find any reason to recommend it to anyone.

There is a pseudo "desktop" email client called Windows Live Mail Desktop
which is being developed as a successor for Outlook Express. That can
simulate a desktop email cleint. However be warned:

1. Its not a completely isolated desktop client. You need to be online to
even access your downloaded POP3(or any other) emails as it requires a
Windows Live ID login to even view downloaded messages. No capability for
offline mail on aircraft for example...

2. Its adware - with about 20% of your screen being captured by huge
graphical ads.

If you are willing to live with that - you can continue to use Hotmail on
something other than a webmail interface.
