Greetings --

Start > Run > Cmd > Chkdsk.exe /? for the correct syntax and
available
options.

Alternatively, double-click My Computer > right-click the desired
hard drive > Properties > Tools > Error-checking/Check Now. This will
run Chkdsk, normally on the next reboot.

Using the run is ok if you know the syntax to enter. The
easiest way to access chkdsk is to go>start\my
computer\and right click on your main drive-usually C:
then click properties and then the tools tab. Now when you
click chkdsk put a check mark in both boxs that show in
the next screen. This will do an entire system check
including free space and repair any mistakes it finds.
When you click ok it will say that chkdsk cannot be
started now as it need exclusive right to the drive or
something like that, and would you like to schedule chkdsk
at the next bootup. Click yes and then close out of these
windows and reboot your machine and go get a coffee while
it does it's thing. This way you don't have to worry about
what extras to type in after chkdsk in the run line. Have
fun
