Can anyone help me create a network between a computer
running windows 2000 and another computer running windows
xp using a crossover cable. I just need to move files
from the old computer (2000) to the new computer (xp) and
thought this would be the cheapest and easiest way to do
it. I've tried using the network wizard, but I'm hitting
a brick wall. Step by step instructions would be very
helpful.

Thanks.

The best way to do what you want is to enable incomming
connections on your XP machine. To enable incomming
connection go to the Network Connecitons folder and
create a advanced connection and follow the wizard.

Once incomming connections is enabled on the XP machine,
you can create a connection on your Window 2000 computer.

Create an advanced connection on you Win 2000 computer
that will directly connect to the win XP computer through
incomming connections and you will be set.

1. go to tcp\ip configuration on both PCs
and assign for network connections:

Win2000: ip address: 192.168.1.1
def gateway 192.168.1.2

WinXp: ip address: 192.168.1.2
def gateway 192.168.1.1

2. check connection:

Win2000: ping 192.168.1.2
WinXp: ping 192.168.1.1

3. share folders, map drivers, etc ....
