I have IE v6 and OE v5 installation.
I have IE v6 full distribution pack, but when I try to run setup, I get a
message: you have a newer version of IE installation, setup now will exit so
I cannot upgrade OE.
Is there any way to upgrade only OE or trick installation program into
thinking I have IE v5?

Thanks

Have you tried Windows Update?

actually I need instructions for manual update.
I've already tried invoking ie setup the regular way, but setup program says
I have a newer version of IE and exits. So the manual way would work in
every situation.
I have ie v6 which contains oe v6. I've already extracted oe files to
temporary folder.
As I understand it some files should be copied to system32 and maybe some
registry settings have to be modified.

Thanks.

Hi ILiya :-)

In addition to Frank's suggestion, you might also try the following and see
if it might help.
Also...a word of caution at this point, DO NOT *reinstall* Windows over
itself, it may cause even more trouble than you already have being in
between IE versions.

Error Message When You Try to Install Internet Explorer 6.0:

A Previous Installation Has Pending Work Requiring a Reboot

or....

and perhaps...

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Make sure your anti-virus is turned off.
The section
Windows XP and Windows XP SP1: Edit the registry and install Internet
Explorer 6
works on earlier versions of Windows.
