I have a computer that came with xp home and I bought the
cd upgrade to 2000 professional. The cd will not
automaticaly launch and change the operating system. How
do i go about changing the o.s.? thank you. brian

I'm afraid the move from xp home (or any xp) to w2kpro is not only not
an upgrade, it is not possible; xp is a more recent system than w2k.

You need to do a "clean install" of w2k. This can be done from the w2k
upgrade CD - if you can, during the w2k install (when prompted by the
w2k upgrade CD), insert a setup CD from a qualifying predecessor system.
This satisfies the installer that you are qualified for an upgrade, and
the clean install will proceed smoothly. Any one of the w9x's would do,
I believe. WinME does not qualify, by the way. Like xp, it was developed
after w2k, and the w2k installer don't know nuthin bout howta handle it.

Always a very good idea to make sure what you need before you buy in
this option-riddled world. :-(
