Problem: bought a new laptop; comes with XP Home SP2.

I have an old Pentium II that I upgraded from Win98 to XP Pro (bought
genuine Windows). Then, came SP2 CD.

So, I have XP Pro and SP2 CDs. Windows Home SP2 doesn't allow me to install
XP Pro then SP2 CD.

Help!

Google for "Integrate Service Pack 2 into Windows XP CD".

Since you have the retail XP Pro, why not just d/l all of the drivers that
are required, burn them to CD, then wipe the laptop and do a clean install
of XP, then apply SP2.

I assume you are retiring the P2 ?

There are ways to do this, but you need to ask yourself "why".

In a single PC, no network setup, Pro is not typically needed.

I mean, go ahead and make a slipstreamed sp2 pro cd and do the install as
instructed in the other posts, but realisticaly most users wil never utilize
any of the features that XP Pro offers over XP Home.
