I have a problem with updating a Windows 2000 Prof. RIS image with SP3 to
SP4. I tried the following steps:

1. I extract the SP4 in the folder c:\spack4 with the command
W2KSP4_DE.EXE -u -f -x:c:\spack4.
2. After that I made the update with the command:
c:\spack4\i386\update\update -s:d:\remoteinstall\setup\german\images\win2000
..pro

But if I install a client with RIS after this procedure the
client-installation stops after the first restart with a bluescreen.

What is wrong? With my last update from SP2 to SP3 I had no problems. What
can I do?

Thanks

Adrian

You must slipstream the image and then create a new cd-based image, you
should not slipstream an existing RIS image.

Generally, the procedure is
1. Create a flat of Windows 2000 on the hard drive (the i386 folder),
2. Download the latest service pack and extract it as you have done.
3. Slipstream the flat image with the service pack.
4. Click Start>Run>RISETUP and create a cd-based service pack RIS image.
5. RIS a workstation.
6. Customize the workstation (avoid updating the file NTOSKRNL.EXE with your
patches)
7. Run RIPREP on the workstation.

That's the point. There realy is no way to slipstream SP4 into an
existing Flat w2k-RIS-image, differing from sp3. I asked MS-support and
got this answer too :(
