Hi, I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows Vista. Now I don't want it
anymore. I have tried loads of ways to get rid of it. Mostly booting using
the Windows XP disc, but I am only using an upgrade disc to do this as for
some reason I never got an XP disc with my computer. When I tried to repair a
windows xp installation (I heard it would work) Using the disk, it asked for
an administerative password, what is this? I don't care if I lose my files,
as long as I get rid of it. Can anyone help?

If you have the XP upgrade, you will need a qualifying operating system disk
to show you are entitled to the upgrade, ie NT4 or Win2000.

Hi Matt,

If you never issued the Administrator account with a password, then it
is nothing (leave it blank).

Delete the partition first.

If you purchased your PC from new the you should have either had an XP CD
(depending upon how long ago your purchased your pc) a set of recovery disks
or there should be a hidden partition on your pc with the windows files on.
I suggest you check your computer manual to see what options are available
for re-install the operating system. You should certainly have not been left
without any way of re-installing the operating system when you bought your
PC. Even second hand (second user) PCs can transfer the XP licence to the
new buyer.

If you have a full install CD of XP, a nuke and reinstall is
perhaps the best route, but that requires a reinstall of all your
apps and a careful backup of any data on C:\
