how to uninstall vista

I am looking for a way to uninstall microsoft vista. I am currently unable to
play any STEAM games (half-life) because there's some kind of problem with
the graphics and I can't get any sound to play on the computer. Strange...
Well, I want to go back to Windows XP, so I was wondering if I can do that
directly, or if I have to format my computer and reinstall everything. If the
only way is the format my computer, can someone tell me how I would go by
doing that? I can't seem to boot from the CD-drive. It simply ignores it and
goes straight to Windows Vista... Well any help would be appreciated, thank
you.

You find everything you need to know in the earlier threads in this
newsgroup.
 
You need to format with an xp disc

make sure your bios settings are correct to boot from the cd. sometimes the
press any key to boot from cd message does not display, so after it passes
through post, tap a letter key, and hope that it boots from cd :)
 
If your Windows came preinstalled you need to read the other threads in this
ng. A search on "uninstall Vista" in the subject line brings up a ton.
