Hi All

I have a laptop (W2K, SP4) and a new PCMCIA NIC.

I installed the NIC with the supplied driver on the CD, no problem.

Got the updated driver from the vendor, and updated the driver. (problems
starts)

Now - when i plug in my PCMCIA card, it is will reconigse the NIC, say 2
beep and die (freeze)
My only option is to shut down power

I boot up in safe mode with networking, and uninstall the hardware and
driver.

Here is my question. !!!

How can i delete the PnP driver from my system, bescause when i plug my card
into my pc, it says "new hardware found", and search and install the faulty
driver.

So i need to uninstall the driver on the system

any hints ???

/Ole

Search the %windir%\INF folder for files that contain a string matching
the name of your device. You'll have to use something that might
describe your device, like the brand name, model number, or something
that could be used to identify the device, and then see which .inf file
describes it. When Windows boots up and finds new hardware, it will
check for an INF file that defines the device. If there is no INF file
to define the device then it asks you for the installation media or to
select a standard device (which you can then cancel). However, once you
boot to the desktop, go into Device Manager and see if the device is
still listed there. If so, disable it. That way on the next reboot you
don't get bothered with Windows trying to install new hardware again.

The maker of this device won't tell you which INF file their product
uses (or what to search for within them to identify their's since the
name can be dynamic, like OEMx.INF)?

However, even if the INF file is missing, the device may still be listed
in an ENUM registry key. Although it may be that the device is still
disabled, this ENUM value can screw you over when you try to reinstall
drivers and enable the device. Windows knows something of the device
and tries to use that instead of the new info. I think the hardware
enumeration is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum.
I remember having to delete a registry key under here to get the old
modem definition destroyed so the software reinstall would work.
