We just got and Epson Perfection 4490 Photo Scanner to replace an old Mustek
A3 EP scanner. The old scanner is apparently still the default scanner and
I want it gone! How do I lose the old scanner from the system? I'm running
Windows XP Home Edition. The new scanner worked for almost a week but now
it's not working at all. Even if I select the correct scanner I have
problems. I just don't get it. Free advice?

First unplug and disconnect the Mustek.

Use Control Panel - Add/Remove programs to remove any software for the
Mustek.

Then remove the Mustek in the Device Manager (Control Panel - System -
Hardware panel - "Device Manager"

Unplug the Epson and do the same.

Re-boot.

Then reinstall the Epson software per Epson's instructions.

Thanks. I got it to work but included reinstalling the software and the
Mustek never dissapeared. I even went into RegEdit and deleted every key
and reference to "Mustek".
Still the darned thing is there.

Hi Rich...

It's worth taking a look in your windows/twain and windows\twain_32
directories.

Take care.

Ken

Thanks! I went to the Twain32 directory and deleted two directories
pertaining to Mustek and now I don't see any evidence of Mustek--Not that I
don't like Mustek--It's just that I don't want to have to deal with the
conflicts.
