Like any other program. IE6 will come back then.

Did it work for you? When you deleted IE7 did IE6 SP2 come back with all of
you favorties?

Hello Everyone

Thank you all for your comments.

I will hang on to IE7 for a bit longer but if the crash continues, I may
have to delete IE7 and use IE6 again.

I know of two causes for the vast majority IE7 crashes:
1. Incompatible add-ons: What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop
and choose Start Without Add-ons?
Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons).

2. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

You simply have to take the right measures. You are aware that you didn't
ask about your problem, are you?

Use the usual methods to identify the third-party software that produces
your problem:
1. run IE with "No Add-Ons"
2. disable third-party extensions in Internet Options/Advanced
3. boot Windows in safe mode

If any or a combination of the above solves your problem there is
third-party
software responsible for your problem.
If 1.: use Add-Ons-Manager and disable all non-Microsoft add-ons and
reenable them step-by-step until your problem comes back
If 2.: that's likely a toolbar or some other installable add-on
If 3.: that's likely a third-party software run from startup that can but

doesn't need to have "visible" connections to IE, for instance
        a so-called desktop search.

Hello Frank

Thank you for all the wonderful tips.

I tried all sorts of things but IE7 still crashes when mutiple tabs are
opened.

When I tried to uninstall IE7, I got message something like "following
applications may not work properly if you unistall IE7" and it listed
applications like Adobe Flash, Java etc.

I got afraid and decided not to uninstall IE7 yet. Anyway I will bear with
IE7 for a while.

You *were* running it without *any* add-ons and in safe-mode?
