I'm the only user of my laptop and will be the only user
and I would like to turn off the 'user account' function
[i.e. you have to click a box with your name and the
computer then loads your settings]. Its an added step
before I can start to do my work.

There appears to be no option to do that. Is this
correct?

Click Start, Run and type control userpasswords2 and click Ok. Uncheck
"Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" option, and
click Ok. Type in the username and password.

Remember, that this will allow anyone who has physical access to the laptop
to log in with your administrator account and do anything they wish on the
computer.
