Venerable laserwriter IIg plugging along fine, I just don't know how to turn
off the automatic printing of the startup stats page when it is first turned
on. Running on imac via ethernet adapter, OS 9.2.2

What's the step by step? I can't seem to find the dialog for this in any of the
obvious places...

Open the Apple Printer Utility. Select the printer and hit the Open Printer
button. Once the printer opens, there is a drop down box labeled Startup Page.
Select that drop down, and deselect the Print Startup page box.

Herein lies the trouble. I have on my desktop an alias that takes me to
"Desktop Printer Utility, ver. 1.3". It does not say "Apple printer Utility",
but this is all sherlock can find on my system remotely similar. I click on
it, I get:

a box that says "New Desktop Printer". Under that it has a choice box that says
"WITH"
And the only choice in there is already written, it says "laserWriter8" beneath
that are choices for "Create Desktop..." the choices are:

printer (AppleTalk)
Printer(LPR)
Printer(no printer connection)'
Printer (USB)
Translator(Postscript)

a subscript there says: "create desktop printer for printer using Appletalk"
The bottom of the box says cancel or OK. That's all I have.

I select Apple Talk and OK, now a new box comes up. "untitled1".\
Within it are two boxes with printer icons, one above the other. The top one
says:
"postscript printer description file". The icon says "generic". To the side is
a grayed out button that says "auto setup", and a clickable one that says
"change".

the section below has an unspecified printer icon and reads "Appletalk printer
Selection". To it's side it has two buttons that say "change" and "create". If
I click on any of these all it does is take me to a menu of varous printer
names and models. I can select my LaserWriterIIg, but NOWHERE does anything
like what you've described come up!

What now?????

No, you need the Apple Printer Utility. It should install from your
system install disks. Or, you can do a custom install and select it
from the list.

The Desktop Printer Utility is something way, way different.
