I don't EVER want accessibility to interfere with my work again - keyboard
malfunction or not!

Can I completely remove or disable "accessibility" somehow?

You can't remove it but you can open Control Panel> Accessibility and turn
off all shortcut keys for each feature. On the main page, uncheck any
"use.." boxes. Then click Settings to remove check for the shortcut key. OK
your way back to the desktop when done.

Thanks Sharon,

What concerns me is that for some reason, TWICE now since my recent XP
install, a keyboard-related accessibility function has started itself, and
screwed up my workflow in the process. Now granted, I suspect my keyboard
has a minor anomaly of some sort, but if all those checkboxes are
un-checked, how has the thing started? The one that turned on this morning
appears to have been "Filter Keys".

Is there not a file I can rename to make accessibility completely cease to
function?

Tom

Open Control Panel / Accessibility. On the Keyboard tab, select the Settings button in the Filter Keys section. Remove the check mark from the Use Shortcut option and from both options in the Notification section.

The most important setting is to turn off the shortcut keys. Even if you
have the "use..." boxes unchecked, accidentally pressing a shortcut key
combo will turn on the accessibility function. For example, holding Shift
down and then pausing could start Filter keys or Sticky keys.

Unfortunately, it's not obvious that you have to dig all the way down to
the settings for the shortcut keys to avoid that situation.
