Hi,

My organization essentially has mailing lists that I cannot unsubscribe to
but that do not pertain to me. The messages come from a single sender so I
have setup a rule to delete these messages from that sender but I still see
a notification in outlook saying that I have received a message (little
message icon next to my clock). Any way to turn of this notification?

Right now I see a notificating saying i have a message, I go to outlook, see
that there is no message there anymore because it is auto-deleted. This is
silly...

You are getting that notification because the message actually hits your
inbox, then your rule deletes it.
The only way to prevent that is to filter out the email before it hits your
mailbox.
Are you getting this mail at work through an Exchang Server? If so, your
Administrator can filter out certain email addresses at the server.
Otherwise, you could use a SPAM filter program that works as a mail proxy
between your mail server and Outlook.

Nope. The new message arrives and triggers the "new mail" envelope and
notification sound. The notification is event driven. Getting the new
message whether wanted, spam, invalidly addressed, or whatever is what
triggers the event. About the only option would be to turn off the options
to show the new message icon and sound and then add the clause in your rules
to show you a popup notification for a new message (but obviously don't use
it in the rules where you are moving or deleting the unwanted messages).
