How to transfer Outlook Express to Windows Mail

Can someone give me step-by-step instruction on how to transfer OE settings,
address book and messages to Windows Mail? I tried the (apparently
misnamed) Windows Easy Transfer, and it didn't work. I installed WET on XP
to collect my settings, but there is no place within WET to save OE
settings, other than a cryptic "communications" setting. And that didn't
work. Any help? Thanks.

Also, Windows Mail has in "import" function that I tried. It asks you to
find the OE mail "store", which I interpreted to mean the folder with all
the .dbx files. But, it wouldn't accept this.

During import, just point it to the folder containing the *.dbx files...and
not browse into it.

That can't be done.

Here are the steps I'm taking:

File menu: Import:Messages...
I get a box asking to "Select Program". I select Microsoft Outlook Express
6 and hit next.
I then get a box to "Specify Location". The selection "Import mail from an
OE6 Identity" is grayed out and not available. So, by default I choose
"Import mail from an OE6 store directory" and hit OK.
Then I get a box asking for "Location of Messages." It is not possible to
type anything into the box, you must use the "Browse" button. So, I hit
browse, navigate to the folder where my .dbx files are, and hit "Select
Folder". At this point, the path is displayed, but it is wrong! For
example, my correct path is:

C:\Documents and Settings\Tim's\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{BA453903-B363-4D03-8BA0-F933057EAB39}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express

But, Import puts an additional Outlook Express folder at the end, like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Tim's\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{BA453903-B363-4D03-8BA0-F933057EAB39}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\Outlook Express

Suffice to say, by hitting next I get an error saying "No messages can be
found in this folder." And, since I can't type in the box, there's no way
to correct the path.

At this point, this appears to be a bug. Can anyone confirm this, or is
there some way around it?

This part, in the select location, don't double-click into ..\Outlook
Express folder (that contains your .dbx files). Just
highlight/single-click/select it and then click Select Folder button. Then
the following screen, Location of Messages, will show the correct path.
Click on Next and you will have the Outlook Express mailbox folders to
select for import.

If this fails, you can also copy all .dbx files into another folder like
c:\OE6 and point to that folder during import. Again, in the select folder
screen, don't double-click into c:\OE6....just highlight it and click Select
Folder. Or, paste "c:\OE6" (without quotes) into the Folder: box in the
Select the location... screen.

I'm sorry, but it still doesn't work for me. When I click the "Browse"
button, I get a box asking me for the location of the store. At the bottom
of this box the word "Folder:" with a blank next to it. If I don't click on
anything, there is nothing in that box, and the "Select Folder" button
doesn't work. So, I must click on the "Outlook Express" folder at least
once. When I do, it appears in the area next to "Folder:", and then I can
click on "Select Folder". But once I do, I have the same problem with the
path being incorrect.

Am I not understanding what you're saying?

Your alternative also won't work, because no matter what folder I point to,
it lists that folder twice, as the last 2 folders in the path. And the path
is not editable.

I was able to accomplish my mission by creating a new "Outlook Express"
folder within the other "Outlook Express" folder and copying my .dbx files
there. This way, I have turned the incorrect path into the correct one.
Still, it seems like this is some sort of bug with the import.

Well as long as it's ok now.. :)
p.s. Maybe my explanation was bad, english isn't my first language ;-)
