How to transfer Contact and letters to a new computer

I am buying a new computer and I would appreciate it if
someone could tell me how to save my "Contact" files and
all my "InBox" folders and letter on a disk or CD so I can
trabnsfer them to my new PC which has Outlook and what do
I do to download it in the Outlook on my new PC. I've
tried using the format outlined by Outlook to save but I
must be doing something wrong as it does not work. Help
would be appreciated

The file you need to back up is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's
where all the mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored.
