Don't have the technical knowledge to understand how to
use the workaround discussed in knowledge library article
821814. Also searched the MS site for a way to contact
them to request the fix by e-mail without charge and was
never successful. How can I make the request from
microsoft for this fix???

Read the note just below the link. If they determine that you need the fix
and that's all you discuss you won't be charged.
