How to test a drive in a hardware RAID configuration?

I have a RocketRAID 1820 with 8 Seagate 200Gb Barracuda V attached.

One of the drives has started to emit a whining sound. Any idea how I can
test the drive using the normal Seagate diagnostic tools? Unforunately,
these tools no longer recognise the drives when they are attached to the
RocketRAID. Also most software that accesses the SMART drive information
won't find the drives either.

If you want to use the standard tools, you will have to disconnect
the drive from the RAID and connect it to a normal controller.
