How to tell the difference between 64bit DVD and 32bit DVD.

Downloaded both the 32bit and 64bit versions of July CTP to try on a
laptop(32) and desktop (64), burnt the ISO's but having trouble
identifying which is which. Is there a easy way to tell?

Unless you renamed the downloaded files, one has x64 in its name and the
other x86. If you weren't paying attention when you burned, then one will
install on the laptop and the other won't.

Do not overwrite XP on your laptop unless it is just a test machine. You
may not be able to recover to XP afterwards.

Looking at this, one way to tell is from within
Win XP Pro (32-bit) and click on the 'setup.exe'
in the root of the DVD. The Vista x64
'setup.exe' gives me the error "X:\setup.exe is
not a valid Win32 application." The Vista x86
version brings up the "Install Windows" panel.

I know the Vista x64 'setup.exe' will bring up
the "Install Windows" panel from within Win x64,
but I did not try clicking on the setup program
on the Vista x86 DVD while in Win x64.

For all the hundreds of megabytes and several gigabytes of software that
installs with Windows Vista, you'd think they put a decent ReadMe.txt in the
root of the disc.

The title of the download indicates X86 (32 bit) or X64(64 bit).

Being a prat, I was no paying attention to what I burned, and have 2
unlabled DVDs of unknown arch... Assumed there would be a simple way to
tell the difference...

Did you read the responses? Pop one of the DVD's into the laptop drive. If
installation begins, then it's the x86 DVD. If it tells you "setup is not a
32bit blah blah blah" then it is the 64bit DVD. Then take a Sharpie and
label the things.

Turn the disks over and look at the burn pattern. The bigger one is 64
bits.

Yes Andy, you are correct. When I read the question, that's the first thing I
thought, but then you had posted this.

Another way is to check the properties of the disc and check which one has a
bigger size. The small one will be X86 and the bigger one will be x64.

This time make sure you label them!
