How to SYNCRHONIZE files to their proper folders?

I try to "SYNCHRONIZE" the files on my win98se desktop and my w2k
notebook, and I thought it was working so that it would upload the newer
files from one to the other and put the newest files in the appropriate
folders on their respective drives.

But lately all it does is put the desktops files on the notebook in a
gigantic "OFFLINE FILES FOLDER" – which is merely a mega-briefcase.
True, when I'm mobile, on the notebook, I do have the latest version
from the desktop, but rather than have it where I expect it to be, I
have first to look in the OFFLINE FILES FOLDER and copy it into its
working directory . . . Not very efficient . . . not only does it
require multiple steps, but I also have to remember what files might
have been updated . . . If I don't remember, then I'm working on the old
version on the notebook, which was superceded . . . and that's of course
a mess.

What is the way to get SYNCHRONIZE to deliver the updated files directly
into the directory where they belong?

Ofline file is not meant for you to do it this way. It is meant for you to
have your network drive's files available when you are not on the network.
Once you connect back to the network, you can sync your offline files with
the network version.

Yes, I want to synchronize the "network" files (from the desktop) on to
the laptop when I leave the office, and then upload any new filed from
the laptop to the desktop when I return.

How to I get the files to replace the old ones with the new ones, in
their proper directories/folders, rather than the "OFFLINE FILES" FOLDERS?

You should access the files in their original structure in Windows
Explorer - as in, your mapped drive on the Win2k laptop, which should still
show up when offline.
